| ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
“All my work is suggestive, it
is not explicit” My work is about making my invisible world visible. This is the visualization of my feelings, it’s the way I express myself. I find inspiration in my own personal experiences in day- to- day life, based on real stories of my life i.e. fear, suffering, pain, anxiety, heartbreak, loneliness and all the other truly human sides of our life on earth. My work is very autobiographical, dealing with a personal stories and some of my ideas come from memories from my childhood, particularly my relationship with my mother, my family and Spanish traditions. I work with lots of texture and the use of colour is very important for me. My artistic background is in painting, however during the past two years I have grown to become an artist who’s define by concepts and artistic interests and not by the media by which I work. I have expanded my media choices to include video installations, sculpture and printing. When I am working on a particular project I carefully consider what media or combinations of media would be best suited to communicate the ideas of the work. My final completed
work is based upon a specific childhood memory. It is about a girl who
has been forced to learn to type and to dance all of which is against
the girl’s will. The girl is not strong enough to say no. She has
to do it. That is why this work is very repetitive to give the viewer
the feeling of this monotony of doing the same thing week after week,
year after year. The content of the work focuses very strongly on time
and how time can change a child’s life. This work intends to transport
the viewer into a childhood memory. Here is the blending of art and life the expression of life through my art. Valentina Gomez Contact details: email: valengb@hotmail.com mobile: 07949330907
